The Radiation Safety and Nuclear Security Act (Act No. 16 of 2018) was proclai​​med on 19 March 2019. The Act makes provisions for the protection of people and the environment from the harmful effects of ionising radiation and also establis​​hes th​​e Radiation Safety and Nucle​ar Security Authority as an independent regulatory body to regulate all practices involving sources of ionising radiation.​

​NOTE: Section 33(1) of the Radiation Safety and Nuclear Security Act 2018 has been amended on 16 July 2019, through the Business Facilitation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2019, by deleting the word “licence” and replacing it by the word “permit”.
